Mircea Geoană about NATO's possible role in solvind the Transnistria conflict


Referring to the so-called frozen conflicts, Romanian Foreign Minister Mircea Geoană stressed the role NATO might play in solving the Transnistria discord.

Speaking after Romania had officially become a full NATO member, Geoană declared that the extension of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization including Romania would have a positive effect on the situation in Moldova, encouraging the search for a solution of the Transnistria conflict which had worried Romania for years and now would worry the aliance.

Geoană expressed his belief that by showing political will and involving the Russian side „we could find a solution”. He added that Romania would not hesitate to draw NATO’s , EU’s and OSCE’s attention to this frozen, complicated and procrastinated conflict which jeopardized European and international security.
