Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin at the informal CIS summit in Moscow

Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin joined a day later the eight CIS leaders who participated in a two-day informal summit hosted by President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The meeting, which began on July 2, was attended by the presidents of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, and Uzbekistan.

According to Russian press reports the CIS leaders met to decide on the agenda of a formal CIS summit in September in Kazakhstan, and to discuss the "common celebration" of the 60th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in the World War Two.
