Ukraine's failure to respect agreements with Moldova on railway traffic

The director-general of the railway company of Moldova (CFM), Miron Gagauz sent on Wednesday, August 18, a message to Ukrainian Transportation Minister Georgy Kirpa in which he expressed concern over Ukraine's "failure to respect agreements on railway traffic" and over Kiev's "tolerance regarding the import of goods through the temporarily closed" customs stations on the Transnistrian border segment.

Earlier, invoking concern over public safety, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry notified the Ukrainian authorities that the Chisinau government would temporarily suspend the traffic of goods for and from Transnistrian businesses at 11 checkpoints of the border between the two countries as of August 20. Tiraspol reacted immediately and said that Chisinau had declared a "railway war".
