Yuri Zubakov pleads for a Russian consular section in Transnistria

The outgoing Russian ambassador to Moldova, Yuri Zubakov recommended the Moldovan authorities to accept the opening of a consular section in Transnistria. Speaking on Friday at a news conference at the Russian Embassy, Zubakov expressed regret that the problem of a Russian consulate in Transnistria had remained unsolved for many years, stressing that the Moldovan authorities should respect the interests of Transnistrian residents. Officials of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry consider that the opening of a Russian consular section in Tiraspol will be tantamount to a recognition of the Transnistrian regime by the Moscow authorities.
