The Social Democrat Party and the Romanian Humanist Party held a common congress to designate their candidates for the parliamentary elections. Delegates at the common congress unanimously designated premier Adrian Nastase as both parties' candidate for the presidency. Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana was nominalized future prime minister.
