The new Russian ambassador in Chisinau, Nikolay Ryabov told a news conference on Wednesday that Moscow rejected the Declaration on Stability and Security for Moldova. The Russian diplomat said that Moscow had examined the Pact proposal launched by President Vladimir Voronin last summer and had indicated its support for Chisinau's initiative through diplomatic channels, suggesting that the pact could become a final agreement which would close the Transnistria settlement process.
Nikolay Ryabov added that Chisinau "ignored Moscow's proposals" after Russia had voiced its official stance and "unexpectedly" proposed the Declaration on Stability and Security for Moldova instead of the pact. He suggested that the declaration contains basic differences compared with the initial text. The declaration, the Russian ambassador continued, was a document drafted by the United States including several Moldovan.
The Declaration on Stability and Security for Moldova is to be signed at the OSCE summit in Sofia in early December.
Earlier, Moldovan Reintegration Minister Vasili Sova said that the signing of the Declaration on Stability and Security for Moldova by Russia, Ukraine, Romania, the United States and European Union could essentially contribute to the Transnistrian settlement.
