Romanian President Traian Basescu and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yushchenko signed a protocol in Kyiv on 2 February on the establishment of a joint presidential commission. Both presidents announced that they also created an intergovernmental commission to study cooperation in exploring and exploiting gas and oil deposits in the Black Sea continental shelf. The talks agenda included issues related to the Romanian minority in Ukraine and the Ukrainian minority in Romania.
