Chisinau: long and winding queues for Romanian traval visas

Thousands of Moldovan citizens have been waiting for days at the Romanian consulate in Chisinau to obtain travel visas which have become mandatory after Romania joined the European Union on January 1, 2007.

The Foreign Ministry in Bucharest announced measures to step up processing visa applications from Moldovan citizens. Bucharest complained that Moldovan authorities had been ignoring the Romanian proposal to open two consulates in Cahul and Balti which would have alleviated the pressure generated by the large number of visa requests.
