In a speech held in Parliament, Romanian President Basescu announced his intention to launch the procedures for a national referendum on introducing the uninominal electoral system. Basescu said such a system would make parliamentarians more sensible of the electorate’s problems. Conservatives, Social Democrats and parliamentarians of Greater Romania Party boycotted the President’s speech.
