President Ion Iliescu has been invited by the leadership of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) to run for a parliamentary seat on the Bucharest PSD candidate lists. Iliescu said that "born in the flames of the Romanian revolution" PSD had been playing an active role in post communist Romania".
