In an interview with "Le Monde" Romanian President Traian Basescu said that Romania intended to strengthen its relations with Moldova, Ukraine, and Georgia considering such a development a plus in security for the Euro-Atlantic system as a whole. Referring to the frozen conflicts in the Black Sea region such as those in Transdniester, South Ossetia, and Nagorno Karabakh, Basescu said that "sooner or later, they must be resolved diplomatically, backed, if necessary, by intervention since they can break out at any moment."
