In its annual report on the observation of human rights worldwide, report which was released on 25 May, Amnesty International criticized Moldova for torturing and ill-treating people held in police custody and for tolerating "cruel and inhuman" conditions in temporary detention facilities. The global human rights watchdog also noted that Moldova remains a major source of women trafficked abroad for forced prostitution.
