Moldovan President accuses Bucharest of irredentism

Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin said on August 24 that Chisinau did not go back on an agreement to allow Romania to open up two consular offices in Cahul and Balti since it had not made such a promise in the first place. Speaking during a TV show, Voronin said that at his meeting with his Romanian counterpart Basescu in January, he had only agreed to examine the possibility of two temporary consular offices.

Durind the same show, President Voronin renewed his accusations against Romanian authorities, saying that Bucharest had on its payroll certain Moldovan personalities whose task was to promote the unionist cause: Moldova's reunion with Romania.
